Civil Rights? Not on Rev. Bush's watch
It used to be, back in the day when America revered Civil Rights for all Americans (or at least claimed that they did), if your religious organization did work for the Federal government, that is if they took money from the Federal government, then you could not make your hiring (or firing) decisions based upon the religious views of your applicants or employees.
Pretty good idea. If the Feds give your organization money then you have to adhere to equal opportunity hiring standards.
So much for that.
"Administration officials contended that some faith-based charities were discouraged from seeking federal grants because they feared the ban on discriminatory hiring would cause them to lose their religious identities".
Lose their religious identities? How does upholding an applicants civil rights endanger your religious identity? Perhaps the ban on discriminatory hiring caused them to fear losing their religious bigotry. Could that be it?
Shit. By this point, I think it's time that I introduce the two of you. Church. Meet State. State. Meet Church. I guess I better get used to the sight of you two being together.
